Originating from Arlington, Texas, my childhood was colored with a passion for astronomy, paleontology, and meteorology. The encouragement from my primary school teachers allowed me to delve deep into these interests. By high school, while my fascination for science waned, my gratitude for those educators, who made schooling a joyful experience, remained. Initially considering a career in psychiatry during my high school years, I soon realized the profound impact my early teachers had on me. Inspired by them, I aspired to share the joy of education with the next generation. Although I pursued psychology, my heart was set on joining the world of teaching.

My identity as a gay Black adoptee from Texas has shaped my perspective and teaching style. My experiences taught me the importance of building strong relationships, appreciating similarities, and celebrating the uniqueness in everyone. These personal experiences enable me to connect deeply with students and their families from various backgrounds. In my teaching, I emphasize interdisciplinary and contextual learning, ensuring that it’s inclusive and impactful.
